84. Trading Places (1983) - 50.5 Points
Chuckles 43, Laughs 8, Belly Laughs 7 Notes: Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd are a power combo in the comedy universe and specifically in this movie which features two rich brothers who try to settle a bet on Nature vs. Nurture by toying with the lives of two people on opposite ends of the economic spectrum (which, in the case of Dan Ackroyd's character, reminded me of the Bible story of Job where God allowed Satan to ruin Job's life/world to see how he'd react). Looking through today's lens, this movie does have a few surprisingly racist and homophobic language/themes and it also keeps with the theme of gratuitous nudity, which was also common in movies 40 years ago. Jamie Lee Curtis is gorgeous (and hysterical in her "prostitute wig"). Eddie Murphy was becoming a huge star at this time and he certainly shines throughout the picture. I hadn't seen this movie for many, many years and it's still quite funny. This movie was a huge hit when it came out. Would I watch it again? I'm honestly not sure.
