The Jerk (1979) - 153 Points
Chuckles 80, Laughs 41, Belly Laughs 24 Notes: When I was in Junior High and my neighbor was in high school, he couldn't stop telling me about this hilarious movie he'd seen called, The Jerk. When I finally saw the movie 10 years later, I understood why. Steve Martin is utterly incredible and I fell in love with Bernadette Peters and her lovely singing voice, trumpeting ability and fascinating speaking voice not to mention she was easy on the eyes. I've since seen this movie at least a dozen times including within the last year so I was reluctant to watch and rate it, concerned that it would lose a bit of the funny factor. It didn't. I don't think it can. It's just one of the best and I'm not surprised that is one of the top comedic films that I've ever laid eyes on and scored as many points as it did.

Notes: Many of us grew up playing with Legos but honestly, when I saw Lego made a movie several years ago, it seemed like a cute movie for kids and I had zero interest in watching it. I had no idea what I was missing. An all star cast featuring Chris Prat, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman and Will Ferrell make this movie fun and laugh out loud funny. It is a funny, cute movie for kids (and adults) and Batman steals the show. Chuckles 53. Laughs 35, Belly Laughs 16
Notes: This is one of the few movies that I thought would score high and it actually came through and met my expectations. It's long been a favorite of mine, having seen it several times over the years. I love Nicholas Cage's narration, his hair, the camera angles. Just beautifully written and acted, attention to detail. It's just one of the funniest movies, plain and simple. |
