I'm Scandinavian. Thor is my guy! I'm a huge fan of Taika Waititi and love most of the Marvel movies. I was truly looking forward to this one so I'm bummed to say that this was my least favorite Marvel movie in recent memory. The best bits, I feel like they showed in the trailer/advertisements and the rest just.... wasn't funny or entertaining or endearing or engaging. It was almost like they were trying too hard to be funny but it wasn't. I'll admit that I did chuckle a few times but overall, didn't love the plot, nor the acting. Aside from seeing Chris Hemsworth's butt, it felt like a movie made for 12 year olds? This was a huge let-down after an incredible Ragnarok, which I thought was just amazing. I'd give this movie 1.5 stars out of 5. Lame.
Would I watch it again? There are people who apparently liked this movie and there's a part of me that wonders if I should watch it again if only to see what they saw and maybe I missed but honestly, I wish I had back 2 hours and 16 minutes that I originally spent watching this movie and there's no way that I'd watch it again.

88. Dracula: Dead and Loving it (1995) - 66.5
Chuckles 51, Laughs 17, Belly Laughs 8 Notes: A Mel Brooks film starring Leslie Nielson, what a great combo! This dracula spoof is entertaining and quite funny. I had been looking forward to watching this movie though I was hoping that it would score the type of points that Mel Brooks did in Young Frankenstein or that Leslie Nielson did in the Naked Gun series. Unfortunately, it didn't get close to them but it was still funny but in more of a "chuckling" way. Interesting, it co-starred Peter MacNichol, who was in the Mr. Bean movie I watched/scored yesterday and I felt like he was extremely funny. Would I watch it again? Yes. 31. Year One (2009) - 105 Points
Chuckles 56, Laughs 27, Belly Laughs 17 Notes: What do you get with hit comedy director Harold Ramis (Stripes, Ghostbusters, Caddy Shack, Animal House), producer Judd Apatow (Office Space, Knocked Up, 40 Year old Virgin) and co-stars Michael Cera and Jack Black? A very funny movie that nobody has ever heard of and doesn't appear on anyone's top 100 comedy list, ever (before mine)! I loved the juxtoposition of Jack Black's and Michael Cera's vastly different comedy styles totally worked. I'm big fans of both actors and I laughed alot. Since I hadn't heard of this movie before, I didn't expect a lot and was so shocked to see that it ranked this high that I added up the points 3 times. Maybe I was in the mood to laugh, I don't know but this movie was a wonderful surprise for me. I don't know that I loved it move than several of the movies it catapulted above on my list (ranked lower) but it's definitely worth checking out (and totally earned every point). Would I watch it again? Yes. |
AuthorIf there' s one thing I've always been good at, it's laughing and identifying with a remarkable degree of accuracy, the source of that laughter. For I am SKOL; (The) Scandinavian King Of Laughter! Archives
