Chuckles 34, Laughs 8, Belly Laughs 1
Notes: I've been searching for a really funny John Cusack comedy from the 80's that was set on an island - that I hadn't seen in years. I thought this might be it but I don't think it is because this movie was only mildly funny. This looks like a movie that my friends and I could have made in the 80's and when I look at the name of the gentlemen who wrote and directed, I see that it was someone by the name of Savage Steve Holland, whom I had never heard of before. This movie features the comedy oddity that was known as Bobcat Goldthwait (who has a....unique verbal delivery) and "Booger" from Revenge of the Nerds (Curtis Armstrong) and a very young and attractive Demi Moore who plays a singer who is trying to raise enough money to save her families house on Nantuckett. I am a big fan of John Cusack (who plays a character named "Hoops" who sucks at basketball but is a good artist) but this isn't my favorite of his movies. Would I watch it again? No.

Chuckles 25, Laughs 6, Belly Laughs 1
Notes: I believe this is the last of the Shrek and related/spin off movies, which marks the end of a pretty long run of cute, funny, feel-good movies that started in 2001. A 20 year run is pretty amazing! This animated movie again stars Antonio Banderas as "Puss" and Salma Hayek as "Kitty Softpaws." It's a cute, funny movie and I can say that it's enjoyable to watch, even if it didn't score a ton of points for laughs. My favorites in the movie are Goldilocks and the 3 Bears (watch it and you'll see why). It did score higher than the first Puss in Boots (almost twice as many points) so it's worth checking out, especially if you have kids but even if you don't, you'll probably find it entertaining. Would I watch it again? Maybe. Chuckles 37, Laughs 7, Belly Laughs 1
Notes: I saw this animated movie with my daughter years ago when it first came out and didn't remember much about it other than I thought it was surprisingly funny. I feel like it's one of those really rare Disney movies that is kind of forgotten about or at least it's overshadowed by other, newer Disney movies and that's a shame because this is actually a good flick. It is funny, there are tender moments and it's enjoyable. It didn't score enough points to make it on the top 100 but if you've not seen it before and you like animated Disney movies, it's worth checking out. This is quite a contrast to the movie that I watched last night (Expend4bles). Would I watch it again? Yes. |
