Chuckles 25, Laughs 3, Belly Laughs 0
Notes: Man, I can't believe this movie scored fewer laughs than A Christmas Story or Home Alone. That was a shocker since I remember watching this in the 1980's and thinking it was a riot. Strange.... It's not that it's not an entertaining movie. I mean, come on, Bill Murry, John Candy, Harold Ramos, John Laroquette, there are amazing comedic actors in this baby but it just didn't make me laugh like it had in the past. It has lots of nudity, like most comedies from the 1980's. It's fun to see Bill Murray young though I thought it was interesting that they didn't buzz his hair or Harold Ramos' hair like they did John Candy. I wish I had that option when I was in basic training! Would I watch it again? No. I don't think so.

Hot Shots (1991) - 90.5 Points
Chuckles 81, Laughs 26, Belly Laughs 8 Notes: Charlie Sheen stars in this Top Gun spoof which features Jon Cryer (the Duckie - Pretty in Pink) and Cary Elwys (The Princess Bride), Jeff Bridges and Valeria Golino. Somehow I watched Part II before I saw Part I in the Hot Shots series but it doesn't really matter. They're both silly, ridiculous and hilarious much in the style of comedy that Airplane made famous. This movie almost made top 5 in the # of chuckles (81) but there are laughs and belly laughs as well. Would I watch it again? Yes. Chuckles 48, Laughs 19, Belly Laughs 12
Notes: I'd never heard of this movie until I saw it on Netflix and I saw two of my favorite actors: Justin Bateman and Ryan Reynolds and I had to check it out but didn't think for a second that it would make the top 100 list. That's a shocker, especially considering that this movie is pretty raunchy (to the point where I paused it when my wife walked in when Ryan Reynolds character was "acting" in a scene. The movie features two lifelong friends, Justin Bateman is the responsible one who is an attorney, married with three kids (the opening scene was hard to watch). Ryan Reynolds is boy man who never grew up, is a quitter/loser. The two guys pee in a fountain, wish for each other's lives because it's human nature to think that you want something other than what you have and they get their wish. It was funny to see the actors playing each other's parts, living each other's lives and it has a feel good ending. This movie would be especially appealing to married guys with kids. Would I watch it again? No, I think once is enough and I'm a little embarrassed that I laughed this much but... I did and you might too if you're not easily offended by adult themes, language, nudity and other things. |
