9. Shrek (2001) - 127.5 Points
Chuckles 55, Laughs 28, Belly Laughs 24 Notes: I'll be honest. I thought this movie could land in the top 100 somewhere but I did not think that it would rank this high on the list. The problem is that we were all way "over-Shrecked" after this movie came out. There were 5 Shrek movies, 2 spin off (Puss in Boots) movies, a video game, Shrek M&M's (which I loved because they were larger and had more chocolate than regular M&M's) but if you let time pass and go back and watch the original movie, this is one of the most hilarious comedy films ever made (animated or otherwise). Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy are nothing short of brilliant. When I first saw this movie, it was so different than any animated movie I'd ever seen. The writers had so much fun and took so many liberties with the "fairy tales," flipping them upside down, like the scene with Princess Fiona singing such a high note that the bird explodes and she cooks it's eggs to feed Shrek and Donkey for breakfast. The theme that we all need someone and that there is someone for everyone - love that. The Robin Hood scene is absolutely my favorite! Just a beautiful, amazingly hilarious movie all the way around! I'm a huge fan of Disney and for decades, we've associated the stories from Brothers Grimm with Disney. This movie is not only proof that Disney doesn't have a monopoly on stories based on fairy tales but I feel like Dream Works has out Disney'd Disney for the first time ever. Would I watch it again? Absolutely!
