M*A*S*H, 1970
This is the movie that the very popular TV series was based on. It begins with the song "Suicide is Painless," which, is the actual music featured in the opening of the TV series but without the words. Interesting, the actor who played "Radar" was the same one in both the movie and the TV series, though he was the only one to star/be featured in both. I feel like Robert Duvall was miscast as Major Burns but they got it right in the TV series. I saw this movie on several top comedy lists and although I found it entertaining, this isn't a laugh-out-loud movie. It's a "good" movie but it's more of a drama than a comedy. At the 45 minute mark, it had registered only a couple of chuckles and it was clear that it wasn't going to score enough points to land on the top 100 movies of all time so I pulled the plug. I feel that the TV series was both more entertaining and funnier than the movie that it was based on.
